Where do Background Screening companies get their information?
It depends upon the information being requested. For education or employment verifications, usually the educational institution or past employer is contacted. For criminal or civil history, the appropriate courts are contacted. Credit checks are obtained through one of the big 3 U.S. Credit Bureaus (this does not include FICO scores). Motor Vehicle Records are obtained from the State MVR repository. Each screening company utilizes various methods and sources dependent upon the type of search and the location they are searching in.
